Positive or Negative? Your Mindset will determine your life.
I don’t believe everybody has a completely positive or negative mental attitude. There are variations up and down the scale, but I believe for the most part that your general feeling affects the way you perceive the world. The world is just a series of events that come and go and how you look at them affects your mental attitude and feelings. This is the saying “Life is 10% what happens and 90% is what you do with it.” Now I am talking about everyday life, I am not talking about situations where you may have lost a loved one or something catastrophic happens in your life. But the list of catastrophic events is pretty small if you ask me. Chicken little thinks the sky is falling the sky is falling, when in actuality it’s not falling.
A Positive Mental Outlook.
A Positive mental outlook is a mental and emotional attitude that focuses on the bright side of life and expects good things to happen. This is the idea that the glass is half full. You believe in optimism and have resilience, gratitude, believe in yourself, and are solution focused. Your thoughts feelings and experiences that you have had in your life effect how you see the world. Having that “I can!” attitude.
A Negative Mental Outlook.
Just the opposite of the positive is the negative outlook, and it focuses on pessimism and skepticism, where you focus on the negative aspects of life and always anticipate the unfavorable outcomes. You see the glass half empty. You believe in the bad and believe you are powerless, which can lead to having a victim mentality and having a fear of failure. One of the simplest ideas showing a negative outlook is when someone says, “I can’t”.
You Can Change Your Outlook!
You are not stuck in one place. You can change your outlook on life and how you react to the situations that happen in life. You can choose to be! You can choose to be positive, grateful, optimistic, and resilient. You have it within your power to identify negative thoughts and feelings and simply choose not to put energy into those things and instead identify positive thoughts and emotions and put your energy into those. And changing your thoughts will result in a change in your life. Refer to the Lao Tzu quote on the first page.
I believe that one of the most difficult tasks in this change is to see your own negative thoughts. We have a tendency to see these thoughts as facts when in actuality that are not facts at all they are our opinion.
Here is a simple limiting belief. “I Can’t!” When you say this, you have already beaten yourself. You don’t try, and if you do try you don’t commit to it, you are telling your mind which is always listening that it is impossible for you to be able to do this. Your mind backs you up, it believes you. Your mind doesn’t bother looking for a solution. Whereas if you were to simply change your thought and say, “How can I?” Then your brain believes that there must be a solution and starts looking for a way to make this happen. It works from all its knowledge from all parts of the brain to find a solution.
