Are you absolutely sick and tired?
Being Sick and Tired all the time is a symptom that your body is not in its optimal state. And this very well can be because you are not eating the right foods. What you eat greatly affects how you feel. If you are constantly on the sugar roller coaster your body will fight back.
Get off the insulin roller coaster.
When you eat carbohydrates, your insulin goes up and down. When it goes up you feel good, when it goes down you don’t feel good. To stop this roller coaster ride you need to switch to eating protein and fat for a steady supply of energy that has no crashes. You have to change your diet and get rid of all the stored sugary energy and switch over to burning fat for fuel. This is called metabolic flexibility, but with our food system dominated by carbs your body is constantly bombarded with glucose.
When you constantly eat carbs, your body is fighting the inflammation that is associated with it. It is unable to keep you well and fight off infections and such. So, you end up sick. Constant bombardment with glucose will cause chronic inflammation and your immune system will always be fighting it, not giving it anytime to work on repairing your body.
Glucose is a quick energy. It raises your insulin and tells your body to store fat. This lowers your glucose levels, and you need to eat more to keep up your energy. When your glucose levels take a dive so does your energy level. Getting off this roller coaster is the most important thing to allow your body to heal and repair itself.
Fat and Protein are not the enemy.
When you are not eating carbs, your body switches over to burning fat for energy. This energy is long lasting and steadily supplies your body with energy. Blood glucose levels level out and stop the roller coaster ride. Don’t listen to the old adage that fat is bad, if it was so bad why does our body store fat. If it was that bad for you our body would not have evolved to store fat. In fact, your body is so smart that it stores everything you need in your fat so when food is unavailable you will be able to carry on and look for more food. Your body is designed by evolution to switch from burning glucose to burning fat for the necessary energy to survive.
Your Body Can Heal Itself.
Ever wonder why when you are sick that you do not feel like eating? Well, your body has mechanisms that will help your body heal itself, but these mechanisms are blocked by insulin. When you quit eating your body switches over to burning fat for energy, your insulin levels drop then mechanisms in your body start repairing and fixing.
The first step is autophagy which is a natural process where the body recycles and repairs damaged cells.
Then comes Apoptosis, which is the normal, planned death of damaged cells in your body.
If you still have not eaten, your body releases a hormone called HGH which is the Human Growth Hormone. This hormone supports metabolism and improves muscle growth, strength, and lean body mass.
If you still haven’t eaten, your body starts releasing stem cells to repair damage in the body.
But all of these mechanisms of healing are stopped when we raise our insulin by eating carbs.
Our bodies are designed to store fat when carbs are available and in nature this is usually in the fall and our body is getting ready for winter when there will not be any food available. So, when these carbs are available it stops all processes and works on storing the necessary fat to survive.
If We Cycle Our Diet.
If we cycle our diet with the seasons, our bodies will naturally heal ourselves. Our ancestors dealt with feast or famine conditions. During feast conditions, our bodies store fat, then when famine comes along it repairs itself. This up and down ensured that we survived to live another day.
All of this is to say, “Our bodies are not designed to be in the feast condition all the time” and “Our bodies have the ability, with the right circumstances, to heal ourselves.”
You can be Happier and Healthier by cycling your diet.
